His most recognized role was as the star of the 1950s TV series "Captain Midnight" (1954), based on the long-running radio program of the same name. His young fans could join his "Secret Squadron" and receive decoder rings and other premiums from Ovaltine and other show sponsors.

He committed suicide after suffering a long-term, debilitating respiratory illness.

Left a suicide note when the actor who suffered from failing health shot himself in his Van Nuys, CA home.

Wrote books about psychic phenomena and the occult including "Great Ghosts of the West," "These Came Back" and "Flight Without Wings."

He and wife Florence had two daughters: Richelle and Patricia.

In 1952, Webb landed the role of "Captain Midnight" in the TV series of the same name, earning the hero worship of kids everywhere--and the animosity of the Captain Midnight producers when he refused to drink the sponsor's product, Ovaltine, in public because he hated the taste.

Durably handsome support actor in a number of crime yarns, westerns and film noir of the late 40s and early 50s.
