Walther Gerhold (born 8 June 1921) was a highly decorated Marine-Schreiber-Obergefreiter in the Kriegsmarine during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Walther Gerhold was awarded the Knight's Cross for his part in the attack on the ORP Dragon. As of 2011, Gerhold is living in a residential care home in the town of Lünen.
